French-English artist Joanna Painter has a predestined maiden name. With her hyper-realistic style, Joanna transcends the traditional boundaries of visual art. Through her paintings, she seeks to capture the very essence of nature and invite us to experience it in a profound and intuitive way. A painter of contemporary realism, Joanna also draws and sculpts.
Her story
Born in Changi, Singapore. She grew up in Devon, England. In 1998 she moved to Nice and since 2020 to Saint-Paul de Vence. She studied at Warwick University but Joanna learnt a lot by looking at works in museums and art galleries such as the Tate Gallery. She was selected in 1993 and 1994 to be part of the BP Young Artist of the Year exhibition at the National Portrait Galley in London.

I try to look beyond the real, to really see.
Beauty is important. I want to share sensations that I can't articulate in words. Bewitched. To slip into a glimpse of another space/time. Maybe it's because I want to understand what God/Source is all about. To explore and feel alive.

Joanna offers art courses and workshops in her studio: drawing, painting and sculpture for adults, teenagers and children aged 3 and over. Classes are in French and English.
